Downspout installation in Billings, MT
Rainwater carried away from your foundation.
Downspouts are fundamental parts of any house’s gutter system. Without them, the drainage of rainwater and other debris would be impossible.
What is a downspout in a gutter?
A gutter system has two essential components: the gutter and the downspouts. The gutter is the channel at the tip of the roofline, sloped so rainwater gathers in it and flows downward. It is emptied thanks to the aluminum downspout.
Downspouts are the vertical pipes connected to the house and the gutter. Water flows into them so it can be moved away from the house, usually through an extension, so it doesn’t gather in puddles next to the walls.
Skip the extensions and the pools that form can erode your lawn, flood a basement or crawl space, and even crack your foundation. Building code today stipulates that ten feet away from the foundation is sufficient, as long as the slope doesn’t send the water back toward the house.
Where should gutter downspouts be placed?
- One downspout for every 40 feet of gutter, so no downspout takes in too much water.
- Downspouts emptied at least 10 feet away from the house, relocated or extended if needed.
- Where neither is possible, extensions that lead water into the municipal storm sewer or an underground pipe.
Sizes
Our standard downspout size is 2”x3”. We can special order 3”x4” downspouts upon request.
